Selecting the right pump for your fish tank

When choosing a water pump there are several factors that must be taken into consideration:

• Filtration type - the type of filter you have will dictate the type of water pump needed.
• Desired flow rate - this will largely depend on the type of fish you have. For example, saltwater fish generally require a larger flow rate than tropical fish.
• Primary or additional use - other than powering a filtration system you may need a pump to run devices such as protein skimmers, UV sterilisers etc.
